Sand Tray
Some things are easier to show than to say.
There are moments in therapy when words fall short — when something important is present but just out of reach. Sand tray offers a different way in.
Using a tray of sand and a collection of miniature figures, you create a small scene that reflects what's happening in your inner world. There's no right or wrong way to do it, and no artistic skill required. You simply choose what draws your attention and place things where they seem to belong.
What emerges is often surprising. The act of making something visible and three-dimensional can unlock insight and emotion that conversation alone doesn't always reach. The sand itself has a grounding, sensory quality that helps settle the nervous system as you work.
After you've built your scene, we explore it together — gently, and at your pace.
Who might find this helpful?
Sand tray tends to be most useful when words feel blocked or inadequate, when something feels more physical than verbal, or when you're stuck and need a different way in. It weaves naturally into trauma-informed and somatic work, and I draw on it when it feels like the right tool for what you're carrying.
It is available for adolescents and adults.
